God wants us to understand how to discern truth from error, because not all of the spirits that we encounter are of God. In 1 John 4, we are given three tests to help us evaluate the things we encounter. Is there a confession that Jesus Christ is King? Is it influenced by the spirit of the world? Does it acknowledge the authority of the apostolic scriptures? God calls us to prove all things.
