When we believe the record that God gave of His Son, we know that we have eternal life. This gives us confidence in our relationship with Him, and as we align our will and desires with His, we know that He hears us when we pray to Him. We know that those who are born of God don't continue in sin, and so we keep ourselves from sin, and we are on guard against the wicked one.
